It might be hot in the UK right now but this cool little harmonic drum and bass mix might just chill you out between the thunder storms. Please make sure you listen on appropriate equipment otherwise you miss out on much of the best bits. There is a curated selection from the present world of drum of bass in this mix. Look out for forthcoming material from fellow english Nottinghamian Joe Nebula; new releases featuring Simplification (Brazil), Command Strange (Kazakhstan) and even the return of legendary Hungarian producer, ICR. New mix soon I promise. In the meantime, I uploaded this recording of a mix I did live on Bassdrive during November 2007 to celebrate my 100th show. I have always nurtured a soft spot for the tech funk subgenre of DNB (largely thanks to the influence of fellow Bassdrive DJ, Pyro) and this mix was to pay homage to some of the best tunes of that ilk that didn't make it into my normal set lists. One way you will be familiar with if you are a frequent Digital Soundboard visitor is that I figure out the musical key or keys being used in them to help me mix harmonically. Another is to award each track 1-5 stars so I can quickly find my favourites. "Why are you telling us this" I hear you cry. Well, this month's mix contains almost exclusively 5 star tracks built around a tonal centre of D#minor. I have curated these from new releases since the Christmas break. A meaty harmonic drum and bass mix goes a long way in helping me to focus on the task at hand; be it building a Web site or stomping losers who desperately need to die using my 70 ton robot => In other news, Beatport has just launched its Mixes service where mixes can be hosted in a similar way to Mixcloud . The difference being the DJ can charge for it providing all of the songs in the mix were either bought from Beatport or their own productions. It is interesting because all 3 stakeholders get a cut of the proceeds; artists/label, Beatport and the DJ. I may give it a go soon to see how it all works. The main motive for me using it would be to reach new listeners and take advantage of their embedded player. The nature of the music just isn't commercial so the proceeds are just icing.
