Mix DS153: Titration

If you cannot see the audio controls, your browser does not support the audio element It's the 3rd Sunday of the month which means it's new Digital Soundboard time. This month's mix features prime extracts from forthcoming LP 'Standard Gravity' on Miami-based label Urban Chemistry . Look out for this dropping on all formats in your favourite stores in April. I have named this mix as a tribute to Urban Chemistry. Chemistry was never something I excelled at at school (I much preferred biology, in which I am a Bachelor of Science) but I remember doing countless experiments called titrations using long glass measuring things called burettes. Thrilling eh? Anyway, big up to all the people contributing to this (fairly new) label's emerging sound. Dub Tao - East Of Underground (Bungle Remix) - Hard Edged Soni - Piano Anthem feat. Diane Charlemagne - Hospital Vahn - Never Enough (Q-Bik Remix) - Urban Sickness Bachelors Of Science - The Rush - Horizons D-...

Mix DS152: Elcor

Mass Effect 2 is this month's mix title inspiration. I started playing it on the 360 this weekend and have quickly been sucked back in. Of all the alien races in the game the Elcor have got to be my favourites. Although they look quite frightful they are actually quite cute. Hopefully I will be able to recruit one into my posse of dorks, especially if it has trousers as hot as these:- Jazz Thieves - Midnight Hour (Submorphics Remix) - Pushin' Wax N.Phect, Fourward - White Noise Down - Fokuz Basic Operations - 4th Street Sound Click (Kubiks, Lomax Remix) - Phunkfiction Bcee - Heartache (Matrix Remix) - Spearhead Nu:Tone feat. 10 tips for (digital) DJs

Just a few tips for any budding digital DJ's. Please feel free to express your agreement, disagreement or indifference by commenting. Play music you love and trust your own taste. Mix in key. Transitions between songs then become something to look forward to and relish rather than something to get over and done with ASAP. Harmonic mixing at it's best should almost create new music between songs and extend a tracks 'shelf life' or replayability. Be your own harshest critic. Listen to your mixes over to analyse how you could improve. Appreciate what goes right and be realistic about what went wrong or didn't work. Practice new techniques that could help you improve your mixes as often as possible. Keep learning all the time and refine the efficiency of your workflows. Try not rely too heavily on the same old techniques once you have mastered them. It's better to be safe than sorry if you're live. Don't experiment too vigorously and be judicious about...

Mix DS150: Inferno

Sadly my time at Bassdrive radio has come to an end. The reason I was given was that they are looking for 100% reliability from their show broadcasts, which I could not offer anymore. I had worked closely with them to try and improve my setup but to no avail. The technical problems were frustrating for the station, it's listeners and for me... One limitation of Traktor is that it can only stream in ogg format. One limitation of Bassdrive is that it would only support mp3 input. This meant I had to either prerecord, transcode in real time to mp3 or broadcast my "what you hear" channel. None of which were very prosaic solutions in the end. I have had a great 5 years on Bassdrive moving from a weekly to a monthly show last year. Like Dfunk said though, "all good things must come to an end". I'd like to thank the whole Bassdrive crew for having faith in me to begin with and I'm sorry things didn't work out. There are no hard feelings and the brigh...
